The Challenge
So far, throughout my college career as a games + simulation major at Miami University, I worked on solo and short group projects, lasting only as long as one semester. For my senior capstone project, the requirements were already spelled out: build an entire game given three semesters. A project of this size would require far more organization, especially considering the need to manage more than one person.
The Solution
During the first semester, six peers and I joined forces to created We Could... Games. Throughout the semester, we brainstormed concepts for what would become "Primary," a game dedicated to the beauty and importance of humanity in art.
With the rise of generative AI raising questions about the future of creative industries, I decided to write a story in response to such concerns, coming from someone about to enter the space full-time. As the lead narrative designer and writer of "Primary," I took it upon myself to create a relatable story of an artist fighting back doubt, shame, and artificial creations. I created an extensive narrative design document to build out our world beyond a single story, allowing for narrative architecture to occur past a single character. Additionally, I worked closely with artists to create an environment that feels aesthetically aligned with our story. Doing so allowed for the transformation of a script I wrote into a unique, sketch-like animated cutscene.
Our second semester of this project kicked things into overdrive, having learned new organizational methods to better align our goals for this project. I was voted Executive Producer of "Primary," bringing the group together, leading team meetings, and managing scrum methodology through Atlassian Jira.
I am especially proud to have solely composed the official soundtrack for "Primary," which released as an album for listening on Soundcloud. You can read more about my composition skill on the Music tab under Storytelling.
The Story
A daring artist seeks to undermine a former friend’s AI-generated “art forms” in order to restore authenticity and humanity to the industry. But when she discovers that this new art form can generate horrifying, aggressive creatures, her mission becomes far more difficult than originally imagined.
